Trivialised, underrated or overlooked. No matter the label, some of these cities have never failed to deliver happiness to the ones who stop by them. Its one of the most unique and underrated places in the world. While most crowds flock to more popular places, there are some offbeat destinations around the globe where you can enjoy a great vacation and have an authentic experience. From spectacular views to stunning adventures, it’s everything you want for your famous vacation spots, just minus the hype and crowd.

Bolivia, Latin America

A country swarmed with natural wonders and culture, yet surprisingly more affordable than most other travel spots in Latin America. Home to the delicious empanadas, Uyuni Salt Flats, Lake Titicaca and the amazing Andean culture, Bolivia has a lot to offer when it comes to travel destinations. Perhaps, it’s one of the most affordable countries to see the Amazon rainforest or hike the Andes. You can always go to Copacabana, stay at the lake and visit the Coca Museum.

Albania

Albania is one of the most offbeat hidden gems of Europe, where you get to enjoy beaches, mountains and crystal-clear waters at just a fraction of the cost. Despite the beauty and affordability, Albania receives almost less than half the tourist as Croatia. Spots like Sarandë and Dhërmi can offer marvellous beaches, rocky cliffs, excellent food and a ferry that can take you to Corfu, the Greek island. You can also visit the UNESCO World Heritage City of Berat, an ancient “city of a thousand windows” or even go for river rafting on the Osum River for a more enriched experience.

Bacalar, Mexico

Situated in Quintana Roo, it is known for “the lagoon of seven colours” (Laguna de Bacalar). The best part? This dreamy affordable paradise offers you to enjoy a range of activities like swimming in the cenotes, lagoon, paddleboarding, strolling in the knee-deep waters or even boat tours to make your travel within affordable budget . The idyllic, picturesque waters in all shades of blue and somewhere away from all-inclusive resorts make this unique destination an ideal getaway worth visiting.

Krakow, Poland

This city has so much to offer when it comes to spectacular architecture, fascinating history and a delicious cuisine. The Main Square is the prime people-watching spot of Krakow and is home to Neoclassical and Renaissance-style buildings. You can also relax at one of the many restaurants and cafes here and take a relaxing walk by the Vistula River and explore the Father Bernatek Footbridge.

Jaffna, Srilanka

Nestled in the north of Srilanka, this visually and culturally distinct city has influences of Hindu culture. You might discover vividly coloured temples here. However, Buddha statues and stupas are absent here compared to the rest of the Island country. The beaches here are also different from the ones in the southern part of Srilanka. One of the best times to visit this city would be during the months of July or August, when Jaffna celebrates the Nallur festival in honour of Lord Murugan. Other tourist spots worth venturing are Delft and Katys, known for their verdant Dutch Fort, wild horses, shining beaches and a much-influenced South Indian cuisine that is worth a try.
