If you like living close to the action and yet want to stay in the midst of nature, then the VeRVE estate, Goa checks all the boxes!
Nestled in the peaceful countryside of North Goa, The VeRVe Estate stands as a grand reminder of a bygone era. Originally built around 1925, this impressive Indo-Portuguese architecture is one of the grandest old mansions in the beach city. Its story began in the mid-1920s when Dr. Aquilino Almeida, a highly respected surgeon of those days, commissioned its construction. The main house, which rises majestically above the fields and gardens, is located in the peaceful locales, just 10 minutes off Assagao. Its grandeur is evident in its soaring 26-foot high ceilings, sturdy 55-centimetre thick laterite walls, beautiful original flooring, and a commanding front porch that overlooks the verdant landscape.
The magnificent mansion has now been lovingly brought back to life in 2024 by its new owners, Rubeena Singh and Vivek Soni, along with their daughter Valeska. The VeRVe Estate—the name was derived from the owners’ initials (Valeska, Rubeena, and Vivek) and has been restored by architect and interiors specialist Paul Rodrigues, incorporating the finest materials and modern conveniences. The original layout of the house, situated on the eastern side of a plot exceeding 5,000 square metres, included five rooms, two large halls, and a kitchen connected to a well, with separate toilets and storage blocks at the rear. It now stands as an ultra-luxurious home featuring six suites with en suite bathrooms, capable of accommodating up to 16 guests. Each room is large and spacious, richly adorned with exquisite art, period furniture, and carefully selected chandeliers and light fixtures–all sourced and curated by Rubeena’s atelier, The Verve Collective. Known for its one-of-a-kind pieces of wall art, artifacts, curios, and furniture, everything at The Verve Collective embodies elegant workmanship and luxury. Running on Rubeena’s philosophy that every element should hold a unique story and provenance, the atelier ensures that it isn’t about price tags afterall. A truly luxurious home is a reflection of the people who live in it, for it tells their story and expresses their personality. The Master Bedroom Suite, spanning over 1,250 square feet, is one of the most impressive suites in Goa, if not the country, showcasing beautiful vintage mosaics and original Belgian tiles, 26-foot high wood-lined ceilings, antique lighting, and a remarkable collection of objets d’art unique to Goa.
The entire mansion benefits from central air-conditioning, full power backup, and abundant natural light. Each room and bathroom within the Estate possesses its own distinct character, and the overall design seamlessly blends the newly constructed areas with the original, vintage sections. The VeRVe Estate stands as a model of sustainability in Goa, boasting a very modest carbon footprint. None of the original structures were demolished, and great care was taken to utilize every inch of the existing space. All the wood used for doors, windows, and roof lining is old, seasoned local wood that has been repurposed. All the wall art is framed using reclaimed teak wood. The entire property sits above a large aquifer, accessed by two old wells that have been restored.
The outdoor spaces and gardens of The VeRVe Estate offer a distinct departure from the typical dense tropical foliage often seen in Goa. Master landscape designer Waylon James D’souza and Paul Rodrigues collaborated to create gardens that evoke the charm and romance of an English Garden, aligning with the owners’ vision to avoid the ubiquitous tropical plants found in many Goan landscapes. The grand entrance gates, flanked by large agave planters, lead to a classic herringbone-brick driveway lined with Juniper trees, culminating in the main courtyard and drop-off point. Lush green lawns across two levels feature flower beds, a koi pond, a picturesque garden path winding through numerous flowering plants, and a vintage French cast-iron fountain that graces the approach to the pool. The fountain, pond, native species, and food forest create a haven for birds, dragonflies, butterflies, and even frogs.
Notably, The VeRVe Estate is the only private residence in Goa to feature a large, field-adjacent, infinity-edge, temperature-controlled swimming pool complete with a swim-up bar and a four-person Jacuzzi. The proximity of the pool and a timber and cast-iron gazebo to the neighbouring paddy field allows guests to fully embrace tranquillity amidst nature. The main mansion features a wheelchair ramp, and the swimming pool is designed to be senior-citizen friendly with a gentle gradient, in-pool seating, and steps for easy entry and exit.
Conveniently located just west of the highway, The VeRVe Estate enjoys an excellent location, offering easy access to Mopa Airport, the culinary delights of Assagao, the entertainment of the gambling boats in Panjim, and quality medical facilities in Mapusa. For those who appreciate living close to activity while still desiring a peaceful natural setting, The VeRVe Estate offers the perfect balance.
